This is great! Love your turtle Obviously has very good taste! How can you go wrong with Doritos? I can only buy them in small bags, or else I eat them until I start feeling sick. Totally addictive :!:  You guys might get sick of all of my pets! There are so many from my pet-sitting days. Quite a few I knew for almost 7 years, and there are a lot of stories  I need to dig through the archives..... Can't wait to meet everybody else's pets!

One of my bigger dolls Shi Shi with Milkshake the world's cutest puppy. All our pets are rescues. And playing with Magic the most troublesome cat we've ever had. We also have an orange and white polycat and Milkshake's mother.

Benjamin (left) and Lucille (aka Lucifer) I'll start with these two. I just love this picture! Will add some of our adventure stories later. It's time to go to bed. Gotta get to work early tomorrow Benjamin's story:I met Benjamin when he was first rescued. He was malnourished, sick, and would have died soon without the intervention of my friend Kathy. After a short time he regained his strength and energy, but started being aggressive towards other dogs at first, then men, and finally all people (except for a select few he had met early on). When my brother and wife came to visit they had to walk 500ft behind us. It was a little bit of a challenge trying to find trails so remote that we wouldn't meet too many people and/or dogs. I ended up getting up really early, and driving into the remotest corners of the Berkeley hills I could think of. It worked with a couple of exceptions The trails were rather steep dirt paths. Once we encountered another dog and his owner. Of course Benjamin started growling, but I assured the guy I had him under control (famous last words  ). I had barely finished the sentence when Benjamin lunged towards the pair. Let me tell you those trails are extremely slippery when you are holding on to a very determined Rottweiler on a mission  The guy gave me a very skeptical look as I was "elegantly" pirouetting down the trail towards them. Luckily I am very resourceful  I came up with a plan, and it worked like a charm. All I had to do was drop down on my butt and voila: the dog was stopped! So I was in control after all However, my performance did not convince the guy and he made a hasty retreat  However, there is a happy ending to the story. Kathy found these wonderful dog trainers, and Benjamin underwent a complete personality change. I always knew he was a great dog, but now people don't think I am crazy when I say it He loves everyone and isn't even aggressive with dogs that bug him. My brother couldn't believe it was the same dog when he saw him again. I warned you I might go overboard "My" pets are just one of my favorite topics, and it is hard to stop  Lucille (aka Lucifer  ) Lucille is a very sweet and fun dog; most of the time  Having her in the car however is something else  She gets very excited when she gets to go somewhere. She likes to put her head on my shoulder and starts "singing". It is worse than my singing, ear piercing, and goes on for the whole ride. Amazingly we always reached our destinations in one piece One time she was very quiet while licking my seat-belt, or so I thought until I realized that she had chewed through about half of it ; now no longer a safety belt When I told my mechanic "The dog ate the seatbelt", he laughed and said that it must have been a Pitbull. He said he and his wife were on their 5th seatbelt since they had gotten their Pitbull  Let's just say I appreciated Lucille's singing a lot more after this incident  I even started to join in, much to the chagrin of poor Benjamin  And I'll finish with the last Lucifer-car anecdote..... It was a gray and rainy day in Berkeley, one of those days where one likes to curl up in bed with a good book! However, the dogs need to be walked rain or shine. So before taking them on our outing, I walked Benjamin and Lucille for about 20 minutes in the neighborhood so they could do their business, packed them in the car to go hike through the mud in the Berkeley hills (anything for the dogs!). Apparently Lucille had decided that the backseat of my car is a much more comfortable bathroom than the wet sidewalks of Berkeley. She produced a pile of "you know what" of very impressive size (and scent) :x I love my dogs, but I was ready to strangle her :x And she knew...... No singing on that trip! Fortunately, I had an old sheet on the seat and I could just throw out the whole thing. I didn't speak to her for all of ten minutes, but then I just couldn't stay mad at such a cute dog anymore. What can I say? I am a complete sucker for dogs (as you will find out in my upcoming stories........ )

THAT'S so cute, Lori ... And Benjamin and Lucille too, Susanne ... I have no pet and actually never had one of my own, but we had a dog when me and my little sister and brother were kids. Here are the three of us on Easter Sunday 1968 with Tessy ... Unfortunately I've got no close-up of her ... This is just a lovely lovely photo Gabriele!!!   DollyKim, LOL...your babies are sweet (and naughty LOL)!

I met Kia a week after my friend Brittany adopted her, and she was so shy that she didn't even take a treat out of my hand. However, we became good buddies within a day. She is such a sweet dog! We went camping and all the hikes involved crossing the river, swimming in the river, lots of water. ............. She was terrified, and the first few crossings were an adventure. My friend in front with the leash, and I was next to her supporting her. But she was very protective of Brittany, and eventually she'd just jump in to the water to make sure we were okay. She made it very clear that she didn't think it was a good idea But eventually she came around. Not that she had much of a choice with Brittany for a Mom! She'd live in water if it was possible

OMG!!!....All of your pets are so adorable!! I will have to work to get a picture/ or pics of my current little sweetheart companion...a beautiful golden Lhasa Apso....and my other dogs.... all now in Heaven....two more Lhasa's and a Norwegian Elkhound. Lori....we also had a box turtle ( and a water turtle) but sadly they didn't live more than 10 years. (Maybe they would have lived longer if we fed them Doritos!!! :P ).....also had many parakeets and a hamster (which I prayed everyday would never find a way out of his cage!! :P ) Love the stories!!.....your pets all have wonderful personalities!!

Love all the pets ! I can't have any because I have too many of these critters around: Don't let your puppies out ! I'm sure they must have some purpose  , and maybe someone thinks they are cute :?: Look at what they gnaw on , but then, they are part of the natural world :D, and, although, they have done my porch some damage, I have not reciprocated, after all, I have chosen to live in their territory !

Here are a lot of cuties collected together. I really like this topic beause I love pets. Unfortunatly I've got an allergy against almost anykind of pets except cows. But it's hard to have a cow in the centre of Berlin My parents do have a cat called Tapsy. We are going for a visit this weekend and I will make a pic of her and post it here.

Here at Last.............. I love all your pictures and stories. Waiting for those of Mira and Eli, Susanne ... Yeah that! I figured since I am home nursing a cold, it is a good time to tell you about "my" critters In terms of personality, the picture says it all Eli on the right kind of goofy and Mira more on the dignified side. I still remember first meeting the two of them. Their parents were a bit nervous, because Eli was a little skittish and shy around people he didn't know. He had had a rather challenging puppy-hood before they adopted him. A dramatic journey from Italy on a plane, and I think two owners that treated him pretty poorly. He had some issues, and drove his new parents to near complete despair in the beginning. He chewed and destroyed everything he could get his paws on. To illustrate the point that I shouldn't leave anything lying around (that I was interested in keeping) they showed me a piece of plastic that vaguely resembled a cellphone The leg on the futon had obviously served as a chew bone for him, ..... In any event, while Mira instantly came up to me and had me pet her he stayed in the background. He was okay with me riding along in the car on our way to the Marina to take a walk (with the parents, so we could all get to know each other). I threw his toy a couple of times, and that won me one brownie point I think. The first time I came into the house by myself when the parents were on vacation, Mira enthusiastically greeted me while Eli sat on the other side of the room and growled So I just sat down with a book, occasionally playing with Mira. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him reluctantly inch closer until he eventually ended up right in front of me and laid down. He still didn't seem quite ready for physical contact, so I chatted with him (actually I talked and he just kind of looked at me ). After about an hour, I finally got the invitation to pet him We had a couple of setbacks when I tried to pull his collar over his head, but we all did get to take our walk that day The second night he joined Mira and the cat Tearne (need to find a picture of her) on my bed. Let me tell you, the bed seemed rather small all of a sudden! But I loved it! After that we were best buddies. Such a wonderful dog!!!!!! Unfortunately, his life was cut short by a couple of knee surgeries that led to severe back damage. At the end he couldn't even stand without support. It was heart-breaking! But he left so many wonderful memories, and I consider myself blessed to have been one of his friends. Mira went through a phase where she tried to catch gophers. Apparently one came right out of the hole at one point and she got him (fortunately, I didn't see that). After that she kept taking off and digging for as long as she could evade capture (and she was very good at that) The main concern was that the gopher holes were in the part of the park where they needed to be leashed Somehow, her parents managed to get her out of that habit. I seem to remember an account of a wrestling match between Mira and her Dad in the mud, which he eventually won! We still had the occasional game of Tug of War, with the dogs on one end of the leash and me at the other It made for some comical moments for bystanders Two determined Mastiffs pulling in the same direction are impossible to beat (at least for me). After I landed face first in the mud once (but I was still holding on to them), I just let go of the leashes. Fortunately, neither one of them was aggressive against people or dogs. And it really only happened a few times. And who can blame them, when they see something so captivating such as a rabbit for example? :? And one more little tidbit........ At one point Benjamin and I (see a few stories back) were going to meet Mira and her Dad at the dog/ artist park by the bay. A wonderful place with plants, bushes, grass, trees, ... growing wild. In the spring you can smell flowers, and in the summer there is a fragrance of wild herbs in the air. There are some trails and lots of little paths, which are kind of like a maze. And it is possible to get lost in there. I have tried it Artists have used trash, wood, rocks, .... to create pieces of arts (statues, paintings on wood or rock, even a small castle made out of concrete). But back to my Mira story........ Intelligently we hadn't agreed on a point to meet up, so I just started walking with Benjamin. Within minutes, Mira appeared out of the bushes dragging her Dad behind. He said she just started pulling him right to where I was. Coincidence :?:  Maybe, but she is a pretty sharp cookie!!!!!! And there you have it, another chapter in "My Life as a Pet-Sitter -How I survived Grad-School"

But at least she's not retreated into her shell!!! I think all things considered she posed fairly well for the photo!!! She kind of has that look my grandmother would give me when she'd ask me do do something and I didn't do it fast enough!!!

Indeed she is. I think in her opinion she is the most beautful cat worldwide- so far- she behaves like that Recently I heard a aphorism about dogs and cats. I'll try to translate: A dog thinks: They feeding me, they're hugging me, they love me- They must be godlike. A cat thinks: They feeding me, they're hugging me, they love me- I must be godlike.

He's really a beauty. Very nice pics. BTW do you know the best about cats? You can't make them to do any useful things. They just do what they want to do.

I believe that Kerry ( the lighter coat) is in the front and Paddy (with a bit darker coat) is in the back. When they are standing together Paddy is slightly larger than Kerry.

If I could have dogs right now, these would be mine...... I spent an amazing 3 days volunteering with the dogs at an animal sanctuary. These are two of the dogs we had for sleepovers in our hotel. GINNYShe is just over a year old, and has recently been returned to the sanctuary. At first she was really nervous and skiddish, but Ginny got over that really fast, and turned into one of the cuddliest and most affectionate dogs I have ever seen. MASONMason is 8 years old, and has been at the sanctuary for 6 years. It absolutely boggles my mind that such a sweet, wonderful, and extremely well behaved dog has not found a home! I hope that my life circumstances will change soon, so that I can finally get dogs. If either one of them is still available when I get to that point they will be mine. Please keep your fingers crossed that I can get "my" dogs soon.

Ines Whomever you may end up with...whether it be Ginny or Mason or both....or perhaps another homeless dog in need of some love and attention they will be very lucky to call you their caregiver and friend. Thank you guys! You are very kind. I can't wait to get my dog(s)! Life will be so much better!

WELCOME HOME COCOA Cocoa was our third sleepover dog at the animal sanctuary we volunteered at about a month ago. Her story is a really bizarre one. She was a Katrina rescue dog, and has been at the sanctuary since. A few months back a family called and claimed she was their dog, and that they had had her since she was a puppy for 8 years. Due to circumstances (new baby and new dog), they would only be able to keep her outside. However nobody ever came to check on her, or make arrangements to take her home. One weird thing is the fact that everyone who has seen her at the sanctuary (including the vets) is convinced that she cannot be more than 5 years old (most definitely not 10). Plus, the family only identified her from a picture. I honestly believe that she cannot possibly be their dog. But whatever the case may be, the family has finally agreed to give up the rights to her so she can be adopted into a good home. I am very excited to say that she will be my friend's newest addition to the household, which already includes two Chow mixes. Cocoa is scheduled to arrive on Saturday. I am flying out to Jersey to help introduce her to the other two dogs and get her settled in. I can't wait! She is such a wonderful and sweet dog! Now if I can only figure out a way to adopt Mason and Ginny (see earlier post).

That's a really weird story about Cocoa but I'm sure your friend will give her the home she always dreamed of    I have a feeling Cocoa will be very happy with my friend. She is as crazy about dogs as I am (if that is possible ) I still will keep my fingers crossed for Mason and Ginny Thank you! That is very sweet of you! If Mason and/ or Ginny are no longer available when I can get my dogs it would mean they have found there forever homes with good owners. It would be bittersweet. But in the end the most important thing is that they are happy. The people at the sanctuary are really nice about keeping me posted when I ask about the dogs. Such a lovely place!

An easy way to share pictures is with Flikr or PhotoBucket or some other free on line photo hosting service. You upload the picture from your computer to their site then they make a code you can copy and paste on to forums. Some networking sites like MySpace and Face Book have photo albums too.

The optimal view of our two dogs. Both rescued from the pound. While the "optimal" view of your dogs is a very cute one... ....do you have a view of their "other" side?? lol

Thank you, Lori. Although I know that she was an old cat, I miss her. We haven't seen her for more than one week and my dad says she's gone for good My mom still hopes Tapsy will return someday but I don't want to raise that hope. So I have to get used to the idea we lost her.

Dearest friends,
I am sooo glad someone started this thread. I hope I can post my 4 cats someday.
So sorry but I have bad news. My dear friend and sister, Nancy (BGLover from the past, cannot get on here) just e-mailed me with the news that her 14 year-old min-pin (miniature pinscher), Sabrina, died in her arms last night. She was almost totally blind but was the sweetest little dog you could imagine. I never had much contact with dogs and I only got to know her the week I was in Massachusetts last year, but I really loved her. This is the most I have cried in a long time....the only comfort I (and Nancy and Al I am sure) can take is that God took her in peace and they did not have to put her down.... please pray for the pain of her loss to be gone from their hearts and only remain the happy memories. Love, Andy

So sorry to hear this, Andy! I am very sorry too.....please let Nancy know we are thinking of her and share in her loss. Ines.....I am sad to hear that Tapsy has left, but perhaps one day unexpectedly she will return.....I believe pets get homesick too! Suzanne...wonderful news about Ginny.....fingers crossed for you and Mason for the future.

Reason why I was MIA I once again had the pleasure of watching these 3 Critters for my friend in New Jersey last week. Never a dull moment with these guys I've talked about Cocoa before. Will fill you in on the other two soon. Cocoa, Mooshu, and Lindsey (left to right)

Lori , please do not bother, I love your pics !!! Me too! I was only kidding  Sad news about Lindsey dog Lindsey passed away last Sunday. We knew she had terminal cancer, but since she didn't show any signs of slowing down until the very end it came as quite a shock. I am so glad that I got to spend some time with her! I'll miss the quirky little girl.

Dear sh1970 i know how sad it is when you lose a pet i have posted a poem that our vet sent when we lost our german shepherd love Justine The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, for this -- the last battle -- can't be won. You will be sad I understand, but don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, you wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me, until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree, it is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you, who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close -- we two -- these years, don't let your heart hold any tears.

Meet Jeitinho, the rascal who devoured all my mum's Christmas chocolates, now often referred to as the 'Pralinenmonster' ... ... and Willi, my brother's pet. Our two guests face to face ... The meeting was not altogether happy ... at one point poor Willi almost lost his nose. ... And he is such a great sniffer! And, yet the rascal appears so innocent

We buried the box turtle that was my buddy since I was about 9 years old a few weeks ago. Still have Big Myrtle and she's lonely now! But I can't imagine getting another turtle just yet. . .for now BM is just getting extra kisses.

This is Blake, one of my niece's cats ... He willingly poses for me, but Noob, the other one, is very shy and kept hiding behind the washing machine during our visit. A wonderful place to show off your pets !
