I just logged on today and found some spam in the re-issues section (Something about Paris Hilton). Ann, is there anyway to block spammers?

That one was a lot cleaner than the one on here last week. *Sigh* There are some real weirdos out there!

Until recently we have been spared from spam posts here, although the spammers have been around again for months at least (you can always tell by their names). So we can assume that there has been an effective spam filter for a while. Spammers are not lazy either however, of course they keep developping new ways to get through. That's why they are here again, and seemingly more aggressive than those we had on the old forum. I guess we have to learn to live with them to a certain degree, ignore their posts if possible (although it's difficult to ignore porn pics), and most of all not click on any links, while we are waiting for Ann to delete the offensive items and for the design company to ... hopefully ... find new ways of protection.

Who ever is on spam hunt needs to zap the pictures too. They're starting to use responses and ruin our topics so just certain posts need to be removed.

Because only a select few true Robin fans find their way here would it help to aprove members before allowing them to join?

Their login names sort of stick out like sore thumbs screaming "SPAMMER!". At this point there are over 11000 registered users but unfortunately the majority appears to be spammers.

With so many spammers around it's surprising that there are not more spam posts.
But when there are just so few of them, why are there any at all?

Information gathering through registering perhaps. An effort to access other members' information? It's weird, I'll give you that. Just a quick glance I'd say there's up to 50 spammer registrations a day, give or take. There's money in spamming but as far as I can tell they're not making a whole lot out of this.
Some are just leaving a URL in their member info to a site advertising their product which appears to be not just smut but anything deemed sellable.
